The school building collapsed during class 21 dead


At least 21 students were killed and many others injured when a building collapsed at a school in Plateau State, Nigeria. About 120 more people are trapped. A two-storey school building collapsed in the state of north-central Nigeria during classes on Friday morning. A building of the college is Saints Academy in Jos North district of the state.

School authorities are yet to confirm the number of casualties. However, a local television reported that the death toll was 12. On the other hand, a spokesperson of the local Red Cross told AFP that at least 21 students were killed in the collapse of the building.


Pictures circulated at the scene show rescue workers with heavy machinery carrying out rescue operations. Local residents gathered around the collapsed building.


Plateau State Information Commissioner Musa Ashoms said in a statement that at least 120 people were trapped in the collapse of the school building. Many of the stranded people have already been rescued.
